Iran: 100,000 women are fired every year

Women’s participation in the job market is 12.4% which has had 1% drop compared to last year,” said Deputy Iranian Labor Minister, Abol-Hassan Firouzabadi. He said every year, 100,000 women are excluded from the job market.

Women’s participation in the world’s job market is 45%.
According to Firouzabadi, women comprise 22% of government employees and 14% of employees in the private sector. Some 2.5 million women are head of households while the total number of employed women in Iran amounts to only 3.1 million. Presently, 87% of working-age women in Iran are economically inactive and half of the economically active women are working in service sectors.
