EU imposes sanctions on Iran regime over human rights abuses

NCRI - The European Union on Monday extended sanctions against 82 officials of the Iranian regime until 2017 over "serious human rights violations" in the country.

The 28-nation bloc has frozen assets and placed travel bans against the Iranian officials since 2011 because of the human rights violations in Iran. It has renewed the sanctions every year since.

Underthe Presidency of Hassan Rouhani, the mullahs' regime in Iran is carrying the highest level of executions for 25 years, David Campbell Bannerman, an MEP from the United Kingdom and Chairman of the Iraq Delegation at the European Parliament, has told European Union foreign policy chief Frederica Mogherini.

Members of the European Parliament last week lambasted Ms. Mogherini for the lack of EU responsiveness to the appalling human rights situation in Iran.

Members of the European Parliament last week lambasted European Union foreign policy chief Frederica Mogherini for the lack of EU responsiveness to the appalling human rights situation in Iran.

Tunne Kelam, an MEP from Estonia and a longtime member of the Friends of a Free Iran (FOFI) intergroup at the European Parliament, told Ms. Mogherini during a debate on Iran that under Hassan Rouhani more than 2000 prisoners have beenexecuted in Iran.
