Women and girls in our society,especially university graduates, suffer doubly from problems in economic and employment arena,” asserted an Iranian cultural activist.

Mohammad Rasoul Mehnatfar talked to an ILNA reporter in Kermanshah (western Iran) about problems of women. He noted, “Compared to men, women enjoy far less social and political privileges in the cities of Gilan Gharb, Sarpol Zahab and Qasr-e Shirin and are deprived of many of their inalienable rights.”

Mehnatfar added, “Women’s capabilities and powers are completely forgotten in economic activities.”

Iran: 40th-day memorial ceremony in honor of fellow student

Students of Maragheh University (northwest Iran) held a ceremony commemorating a fellow girl student who had committed suicide 40 days ago by taking rice pills on October 21, 2015.

RaziehShokraneh was a sophomore student of Applied Chemistry at the School of Basic Sciences of Maragheh. She was under a lot of pressure from university officials and had been summoned repeatedly by the intelligence office at the university. She committed suicide at her dormitory called Vali-Asr. She died at hospital due to severe poisoning

Iran: Nursing students protests across the country

Nursing students and their professors at the University of Medical Sciences in Isfahan formed a human chain on Monday, November 30, 2015, to protest a recent Health Ministry directive to hospitals to train people for nursing without having to attend courses at school, according to the website of the NCRI Women’sCommittee.

They demanded cancellation of the government decision in this regard.

On the same day, nursing students at the Medical School of Neishaboor (central north Iran) staged a protest and signed a petition demanding cancellation of the plan for one-year training of nurses at hospitals.

On Saturday, November 28, students of nursing at the University of Tabriz staged a gathering and signed a petition calling for cancellation of nurses' training at hospitals.

On Monday, November 30, the Nursing Community of Aligoodarz (southwest Iran) joined students in other cities and wrote an open letter to officials describing the Health Ministry's plan as "anti-popular" and a serious blow to the country's social health.

Before I was even born, my father experienced the mullah’s prisons. In 1980, when the theocratic dictatorship took control of Iran, my father was arrested and tortured. He had been among those who stood in opposition to their tyrannical rule, and paid the price with several years of torture in the regime’s prisons.

My father was educated at the University of Karaj in agricultural engineering, and could have worked towards building up his homeland; Instead, he has spent years, off and on, behind bars. The theocracy has made it such that everyone finds himself leading a life unsuitable to their vocation: our scholars rest imprisoned while thieves and criminals are in government.

I recall asking him, when I was a child,What happened to your knee?’ to which he responded, 'it was hit by a bullet.' Only when I was older did I learn that he participated in peaceful demonstrations in Tehran in June1981and during his escape, he was shot and then subjected to hours of painstaking torture.At the time, my father would have been the same age I am now, 26The whip marks left by his torturers can still be seen on the soles of his feet and his back.

Throughout my childhood, the thought of my parents’ arrest was my greatest nightmare. But one day, I myself decided to stand up against this government. I moved to Camp Ashraf and left my country for Iraq, where thousands of refugees and Iranian dissidents lived in a place that was our only hope for freedom. I remember, on my last day in Iran, looking into my father’s eyes and asking if I’d ever see him again...

Maryam Rajavi calls on students for solidarity against mullahs' regime

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance's President-elect, hailed Iran's university and high school students, teachers, professors as well as education and university faculties as "future makers" and wished them a fruitful year, with more extensive protests and advancement on the path of freedom and emancipation of the people of Iran.

In a partial review of the abysmal situation of education in Iran, Mrs. Rajavi said: Every year, at least a quarter of Iranian students have to quit school, a number of whom join child workers whose numbers are today estimated between 2 to 5 million. Many rural schools have been shut down in a drive to cut down the budget, and the policy of privatization of education, which is being expanded by Rouhani, has brought about only further anarchy and regression. The quality of education has sharply declined and the living standard of teachers and university professors has plummeted dramatically.

Iran: Two girls among student activists arrested

In nightly raids launched on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, on residential units in Tehran and Karaj, security forces arrested a number of student activists, most of them from Tehran's Khajeh Nassir Tousi University, school of . In some cases, they broke the door to enter the house and took away personal belongings and computers after thorough search of the house.

The names of a few of those arrested and imprisoned in Evin Prison, have been obtained, among them two female student activists, Kiana Karimpour and Mehraban Keshavarzi.

Iran: University graduates resort to street peddling

With the face of poverty turning  in Iran, a considerable number of women turn to peddling to compensate for their financial straits. Among these peddlers are educated women who have finished high level college education.

Leila, 45 with two children, is a graduate of Computer Sciences. She says she is satisfied with her income from peddling in underground metro stations but complains about the "not-proper" approaches of some passers by.

Maryam, 27, has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. "I have very low income and cannot support my family," she says. "Since I could not find a job in my area of education, I had to resort to peddling."

A report released Thursday by the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs describes how the hackers used text message and phone-based phishing to try to get around the security of Google’s Gmail and access the accounts of their targets.
