Below is excerpts of the speech by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the Iranian Resistance at Conference entitled Women's Role in War against Fundamentalism held on 2 March 2016 in the European Parliament and chaired by Beatriz Becerra, member of EP’s Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality:

Extremism under the banner of Islam is a fatal epidemic expanding throughout the world because it has not been confronted. To defeat this epidemic, a comprehensive approach is vital.

Since the 1990s we have been warning that Islamic fundamentalism is the new global threat.

Today, there is a real concern about Daesh, but it should be noted that its expansion is a product of two developments in the region:

The Iranian regime's occupation of Iraq after the war in 2003 and the brutal crackdown on Sunnis by the mullahs' puppet government in Iraq.

Suppression of Syrian people and dissidents by Bashar Assad's government, backed and led by the mullahs' regime.

Therefore, if it was not for the Iranian regime's domination over Iraq and Syria, if the Sunnis were not suppressed in Iraq, if Bashar Assad's dictatorship did not exist, Daesh would not have emerged as a threat.

With the inception of the mullahs' rule in 1979, a concrete, practical model was created for all fundamentalist groups. The history of the past 37 years proves that no other factor has been as effective as a ruling government acting as a role-model for the expansion of fundamentalist groups. Particularly that the mullahs actively try to create these groups and guide them ideologically.

Iran: Wrong gas burns lungs of young woman after delivery

A young woman was given the wrong gas instead of Oxygen after giving birth to her twins in a Tehran hospital.

The news has just recently leaked out that on the morning of January 17, 2016, a young woman refered to Tehran's Chamran Hospital because of having pain. Doctors in the emergency room diagnosed that she needed to undergo C-section, so they had her taken to the operation room.

After giving birth to healthy twins, the mother was in need of receiving Oxygen, but she suffered severe burns as soon as the Oxygen mask was put on her face because she had been given N2O and CO2 instead of Oxygen.

Iran: 74 lashes, three months jail for mother of political prisoner and human rights activists

18 human rights activists including families of political prisoners and martyrs were sentenced each to 91 days imprisonment and 74 lashes.

They had participated in a peaceful gathering outside Tehran's Evin Prison on November 21, 2015, demanding abolition of death sentence for prisoner of conscience Mohammad Ali Taheri, and freedom of all political prisoners.

The 18 convicted activists included Mrs. Simin Aiyvazzadeh (mother of political prisoner Omid Ali-Shenas), Azam Najafi, Parvin Soleimani, Sara Sa'ee, Farideh Toosi and Zahra Modarres Zadeh. They were charged with "illegal gathering disrupting public order."

Iran: UN Third Committee expresses strong concern over human, women's rights in Iran

In a strongly worded resolution on Thursday night, November 19, 2015, the UN Third Committee condemned the flagrant violations of human rights in Iran.

It took a strong stand against the death penalty, massive and violent crackdown on religious and ethnic minorities and of course on women, and decided to continue its examination of the situation of human rights in Iran under the item entitled “Promotion and protection of human rights”.

On the part on women's rights, the resolution indicates that the General Assembly "strongly urges" the clerical regime in Iran "to eliminate, in law and in practice, all forms of discrimination and other human rights violations against women and girls, to take measures to ensure protection for women and girls against violence, to address the alarming incidence of child, early and forced marriage, to promote women’s participation in decision-making processes and, while recognizing the high enrolment of women in all levels of education in the Islamic Republic of Iran, to lift restrictions on women’s equal access to all aspects of education and women’s equal participation in the labour market and in all aspects of economic, cultural, social and political life."

This resolution is going to be voted on by the General Assembly.

Iran: On the eve of UN summit, NCRI publishes study on women's plight in Iran

TheNCRI Women's Committee has published a study on the Iranian regime's 20-year conduct since the Beijing Platform for Action.

The study sheds light on institutionalized violence and discrimination against women in Iran and its horrendous consequences for Iranian women and girls.

It further probes the regime's vision on women contradicting universal humanitarian standards and the objectives of the gender-equality movement.

Iran: Female football player prevented from attending Asian games by husband

Niloofar Ardalan, member of Iranian women's national football team, was not allowed to leave the country because of her husband's opposition. She had taken part in intense exercizes for a considerable amount of time, but faced disagreement of her husband who did not giver her, her passport.

Ms. Ardalan is the left halfback and the caption of women's national football team.

Iran: Atena Faraghdani, recipient of CRNI'S 2015 Courage in cartooning award

CRNI's 2015 Award for Courage in Editorial Cartooning is being given to Iranian artist-activist, Atena Farghadani. Ms. Farghadani was jailed in Tehran in August of 2014 after publishing a cartoon in protest of proposed legislation that would restrict birth control and women's rights in Iran. Following her release four months later, Farghadani posted a YouTube video recounting her beatings and mistreatment while in prison.

As a result of that letter and her YouTube posting, Farghadani was returned to prison in January, 2015. In May, she was tried and found guilty of "insulting members of parliament through paintings" and "insulting the Iranian supreme leader." Atena Farghadani was sentenced to 12 years, nine months in prison.

The Courage in Cartooning award will be presented to Atena Farghadani in absentia by CRNI founder and Executive Director Dr. Robert Russell in Columbus, Ohio, on September 5, at an evening event during the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists 2015 convention.

While the summit is going to urge further Top commitment by member states to women's equality and empowerment in the world's development agenda for the next 15 years based on the Beijing Platform of Action and the Convention on the Elimination of All Discrimination contre Women in the world, Mehr Expressed concern about how Tehran shoulds Plan for this summit.

The concern is omnipresent Within The diet's government circles PARTICULARLY That It Has not yet signed the CEDAW and have Mehr wrote, some issues including "women's choice in controlling reproduction" and "Reforms in the laws to Provide women's equality in all affairs" are Contrary to the official views of the religious hierarchy fascist ruling the country.
